You must attend both days for 6 CEUs. We will not issue partial credit.
A recording of this event will be provided to registrants for viewing for 3 months.

This six-hour presentation on law and ethics will address a wide-variety of topics including, but not limited to, the clinician’s decision-making process, including suicidality and Tarasoff issues; advertising; psychotherapist-patient privilege issues; the “Golden Rule of Confidentiality”;  service of subpoenas; responding to subpoenas; handling of suspected child abuse reports; recordkeeping trends; and, various business structures for psychotherapy practices. 

Presentation Goals

This course is designed to expose therapists to a wide-variety of laws and regulations concerning issues arising within their practices and to develop their confidence in addressing such issues.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to identify three key principles of sound clinical thinking.
  • Participants will be able to name three different business structures for providing mental health services to consumers.
  • Participants will be able to describe five situations that will likely affect their practices and what to do about them.

About the Presenter

Mr. Jensen worked in-house for the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) for many years, where he assisted CAMFT’s members in understanding and complying with their legal and ethical requirements. A popular and engaging presenter, Mr. Jensen has given numerous workshops throughout the state on compliance issues for psychotherapists. In addition, to providing workshops for local chapters of CAMFT, he also conducts trainings for nonprofit agencies, government agencies, and universities. He has also assisted psychotherapists in forming professional corporations and nonprofit corporations.

If you miss any of the presentation, you will not be eligible for the CEUs. SCV-CAMFT is a CAMFT-approved Continuing Education Provider (CEPA 052466). This course meets the qualifications of 6 continuing education credit for LMFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs. SCV-CAMFT maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.
