We are excited to announce the third installment in our popular series to demystify private practice co-hosted by reflect.  reflect’s mission is to support great therapists to build thriving private practices and make quality mental health care more accessible.  reflect has helped thousands of therapists grow successful practices and facilitated over 100,000 therapy sessions to date, and they’re here to share their learnings.

Our first session provided an overview of the fundamentals of starting a private practice. The second was a deep dive into marketing. This third workshop will walk you through another of the biggest challenges therapists face in private practice:  how to set fees and manage finances.

This presentation will review the A-to-Z of money, from setting fees to billing to boundaries and superbills. We will also share real-world tips that have helped other therapists maximize their income.  In addition, we will discuss the most common questions around marketing like how to think about a sliding scale and why your hourly rate isn’t as important as you think.  There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions of your own in a safe space with peer support!

Whether you were able to join our previous sessions or are new to this series, this will be an informative discussion on an essential topic that you won’t want to miss!

Program Goals

The goals of this presentation include understanding key principles of practice finances, demonstrating how those principles translate to specific strategies (e.g., setting fees) and providing examples of successful financial management approaches.  Audience members should come with curiosity to learn how to achieve their income goals and how to set financial boundaries based on knowing their value.  By the end of this series, attendees should have the knowledge of what it takes to build a thriving private practice, and the confidence to do so, plus clear tools and techniques they can implement even in established practices.

About the Presenters

This event is co-hosted by reflect.  It will be presented by Jonathan TranPham, reflect’s founder and CEO, and Dr. Carl Fleisher, reflect’s head of clinical and a board certified psychiatrist with a private practice in Beverly Hills.

Jonathan TranPham
Jonathan is the founder and CEO of reflect.  Jonathan started reflect after his own struggles looking for the right therapist.  Luckily, he eventually found care and experienced the life-changing power of therapy (thank you, DBT!).  Jonathan is passionate about making quality care more accessible for others and supporting therapists with his business experience.  Before starting reflect, Jonathan ran marketing at apparel brand Everlane and spent seven years in strategy consulting at Bain and Monitor Group, advising global healthcare and consumer leaders such as Levi's, Nordstrom, eBay, and Genentech.  Jonathan has a BS in organizational psychology from Northwestern and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.  In his spare time, Jonathan loves to travel, cook (vegetarian), and is a certified spin instructor.

Dr. Carl Fleisher
Dr. Carl Fleisher is reflect’s head of clinical and a board-certified psychiatrist. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA and sees patients in private practice in Los Angeles.  Dr. Carl attended Harvard Medical School and then completed his residency and fellowship at the UCLA Semel Institute and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital.  After a two-year stint on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Carl returned to Los Angeles where he specializes in treating adolescents with borderline personality disorder.  In his spare time, Dr. Carl enjoys spending time with his children, exercise, and watching Penn State football.
