The Well-Being Committee aims to promote and expand awareness of personal and professional well-being among members and colleagues of SCV-CAMFT. The committee designs and creates supportive and educational programs and services which encourage, enhance, and maintain wellness and effective functioning of SCV-CAMFT chapter members.

Members of the Well-Being Committee include: Cathy Hauer, Mary Jo Trusso, Ani Martin, Elaine Brady, Lisa DiMarino, Heena Parikh, and Alice J. Sklar.

Tips   Eat well, exercise and get good sleep. Set healthy limits, consult regularly,take breaks, relax, satisfy spiritual needs.

Risks   Poor diet,excessive use of substances, inadequate sleep, overlooking personal boundaries, ignoring professional guidelines, avoiding consultation.

My former therapist had a favorite saying: “the slower you go, the faster you get there.” Pithy, counterintuitive and a dollop of eastern-sounding wisdom: my cup of tea. But what did it mean? Without turning this column into a public confessional, I will share my layered appreciation of this aphorism as it applies to the challenges of practicing psychology in California in 1997, with a particular focus on the practitioner’s ability to remain emotionally present in clinical practice.
