Shazad Contractor
Chief Financial Officer
Shazad Contractor received his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University in 2003 and was licensed as an MFT in May 2008. Though I am very new to the counseling profession, I look forward to many years of working with clients and getting to know the local community of therapists. I trained as an Intern at the Bill Wilson Center and continued to volunteer at that agency as a licensed MFT until September 2009. I am now in a private practice in San Jose. When I started working with teenage clients at Bill Wilson, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I got along well with this age group and was successful in making some positive changes in their lives. Later in the internship I worked mostly with adult and couples clients.
I was born in Mumbai, India and first came to California (a long time ago!) to do my Masters in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. Then I completed my MBA, also at Stanford, in 1975 and received my CPA in 1978. I have worked in a financial or consulting capacity from 1975 to the present in businesses of all sizes and in all industries. I really love my work in both the business world and as a counselor. I currently have a full time job as the Chief Operating Officer for a construction company during the day and work two evenings and some Saturdays at my counseling office. In addition, I have a private CPA practice advising clients on their businesses, tax issues including tax return preparation and managing their IRA portfolios. Despite my degrees in engineering, I realize that I only had one summer job during any engineering work!
I volunteered for the CFO Board position in our chapter because I wanted to be of service to our community and because I did not want an MFT with no background in finance struggling with these tasks! I also see this as an opportunity for a part time therapist such as myself to get to know our local community of therapists and to become part of this local community. I look forward to being of service to our chapter and our Board.
